Spoken English Program

Introduction

India’s progress depends upon the contribution of the youth but a large number of youth is still unskilled. English has become the preferred language of conversation for jobs in retail, hospitality, health care, BPO and other sectors. English not only builds confidence but also improves chances of finding employment.

Asha Deep Foundation, along with the Corporate Social Responsibility Division of Times Group is facilitating the teaching of Spoken English to the underprivileged youth (between.18-32). The curriculum is designed by British Council to up job oriented of the learners on completion of the course. Till now 400 learners from Asha Deep Foundation have passed out and more than 50% are earning their livelihood. There is an additional two week module “face the world” taught at the end of 10 weeks. This module focuses on interview and soft skills interview to better equip them in facing an interview and performing thereafter well.
On completion of the course, a job fair is organized by the Times Group followed by an annual convocation.

Success Story 1

Name of the Student : Amit Kumar
Father’s name : Nagender Singh
Mother’s name : Raj Bala
Address : Shahid Nagar
Amit belongs to a low income class family with 8 family members. The father has a private job and the mother is a housewife. His father was in debt and it was not possible to support the family. Amit is a standard 12 pass student and was in need of job to support his father. When he heard about Asha Deep Foundation’s Teach English program with possibility of placement, he immediately took admission in the course on 25 October 2012. He was very shy in the beginning, low on confidence and could only speak English in bits and pieces. His active participation ensured that he improved his confidence level. After two months he got a job as a security guard and salary of Rs. 5000 per month. Along with his job he continued this course because he was in need of a better job. After completing the course he attended the Job Fair on 5th Feb 2012 and faced interviews confidently. Amit was offered a job as a cashier in a big mall with a handsome salary of Rs. 8500 per month.
Now he is supporting his family, has got rid of his father debt, and also bought a bike. Amit is extremely thankful to ADF.

Tulsa joined ADF’s Spoken English course because she was in need of a job. Her father had expired in 2009 and her mother was seriously ill and her two brothers were not supporting her. She attended the classes regularly and her English improved admirable.
As fate would have it, her mother also passed away leaving her alone. There was nobody to look after her.
But Tulsa did not lose hope and she continued her classes because being self reliant was her only way out. She attended the Job Fair and got placed with Tata AIG. Her salary was Rs. 6500 per month. Now Tulsa is independent, her life is better and she is very grateful to ADF.
