ASHA DEEP FOUNDATION:

• ANNUAL DAY CELEBRATION:
Asha Deep Foundation celebrated its Annual Day on 22nd November 2008 at Project office of Shahid Nagar. Chief Guest Mr. Divya Jaiswal, Deputy Mayor of Delhi presided over the programme. Renowned dignitaries of society such as Mr. Veer Singh Dhingan, MLA Seemapuri Constituency, Mr. K.L. George, Programme Supervisor, Caruna Bal Vikas, Mrs. Indu Gupta P.D.C.-IWC graced the occasion with their presence. The chief guest after a Welcome Dance by the Children of Asha Niketan Home inaugurated the programme with the lighting of lamp. This year was dedicated to the Girl Children of the community. On this occasion Asha Deep Foundation honoured five-community girls and their future was secured by fixed deposit certificates. Girls selected for awards are orphan and presently living in Ashaniketan Home for Children at High Risk. Apart from the physically challenged children, who participated in Special Olympic organised by Government of India under the banner Delhi State Mega Games, also honored in the programme. Mr. Jaiswal released ADF souvenir, Neev on the occasion. All the beneficiaries, women, children, senior citizen, physically challenged, of ADF project enthusiastically participated in the celebration. Nearly 1000 community people and children were present in the function. Children of St. James Convent School, Asha Niketan Home and women from community who are associated with ADF project presented cultural programme on the occasion. A dance number presented by tiny tots of Asha Child Development Centre was very impressive. Chief Guest Mr. Divya Jaiswal was very contented with the development work of Asha Deep Foundation. He emphasized on elimination of gender discrimination from the society in his speech. He stressed upon the need of more support to girl children in terms of education, health care and nutrition. Other guests also appealed to the community to give equal importance to their girl children. He promised his support for the underprivileged community especially in the education during his address to the audience. On the occasion prizes were distributed to the best students of the school as well as the Best House.
• ANNUAL SPORTS DAY:
The 23rd Annual Sports Day of ADF was celebrated on 13th February 2009 at Vivekanand Park, Shalimar Garden. School student participated in the event along with beneficiaries of other projects of ADF. Mr. Narendra Nath, MLA Shahadra Constituency & Chairman, Tans Yamuna Development Authority participated in the programme as chief guest beside Mr. Veer Singh Dhingan, MLA Seemapuri Constituency, Mr. HS. Sharma, RWA President, Shalimar Garden. The chief guest formally inaugurated the event by lighting the torch. Students performed a March Past with the torch. Children presented Sack race, Matka Race, & skipping race. Children of school presented very impressive sari drill. They made peacock in their drill. Every department presented sports drill on that day. The chief guest distributed prizes to winner of the sports competition. The chief guest was surprised to see the participation of community in the event. He assured his assistance to the meritorious students in the educational field. He also stressed upon the need of education for all the children of underprivileged community. Guest of Honour Mr. Veer Singh Dhingan also extended his support under his capacity for development of community people of Seemapuri. RALLY ON CHILD RIGHTS: ADF organised a rally of children involved in rag picking on Child Rights on 25th February 2009 at A Block Park. More than 700 rag picking children from Seemapuri resettlement colony participated in the programme. All the children assembled at Basti Vikas Kendra at 10.00 a.m. in the morning to begin the rally. The Shahid Nagar Police Station SHO Mr. Vashisth flagged off the rally. The rally passed through Aanadgram, Tahirpur, Dilshad garden and Dilshad Colony finally reaching to A- Block park venue. Children were raising slogans to restore their fundamental rights. They were having banners and placards in their hand. They were in Orange color T-shirts and caps with the name ADF and HCDI (Pune) printed on it. At the venue Chief Guest Mr. Rajesh Deo, ACP Northeast District of Delhi addressed the children. Apart from chief guest Seemapuri Councilor Mrs. Kiranvati Tank, Prominent persons of community, Residence welfare association Presidents of the area, representatives of Mr. Narendra Nath, MLA Shahadra Constituency & Chairman, Tans Yamuna development authority and Mr. Veer Singh Dhingan, MLA Seemapuri Constituency participated in the event to show their solidarity with the children. They ensured their full support to children. Children also shared their experience with the guest and presented the memorandum. A rag-picking girl Useeran asked the community, why there is gender discrimination in the society? She demanded equal facilities and benefits for the girls. Chief Guest Mr. Deo invited the children to police station to see the working of police. He assured the children that police are friend of society. Next day children visited Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi Mrs. Sheila Dixit, at her residence with Sr. Jothi Chetty Chief Executive, ADF and Br. H.K. Chetty, Director. They gave a memorandum of their demand to Hon’ble Chief Minister. Chief Minister especially invited Mr. Amod Kanth, Chairman, National Child Rights Commission to look into the demands. He assured all necessary support to the children. The programme was very successful and able to create awareness nearly 3-lakh population of the area effectively.

• ALUMNI DAY OF ASHANIKETAN HOME:
The Alumni Day of Ashaniketan Home’s rehabilitated children was organised on 26th December 2008 at HRD Centre of ADF. All the former children of the Home and presently rehabilitated in the mainstream of the society, participated in the programme. Most of them are engaged in jobs. They shared their experience with the present children of Asha Niketan Home. All the ex-children of Ashaniketan Home had made a fraternity to bring all children on one platform. The name of the association is Asha Alumni Association (AAA). The main objective of this association is to help the destitute children living in the pavements and street to fulfill their need. The members of the executive committee conducted a meeting on the day to chalk out action plan for the association. A membership fee was introduced in the meeting. The money collected from fee will be used for the rehabilitation of the children. The AAA has also decided to conduct competition among the present children. The AAA is a very successful initiative towards rehabilitation of the children who are at High Risk.

• ALUMNI DAY OF AVTTI STUDENTS:
Alumni Day of pass-out students of Asha Vocational Technical Training Institute was organised on 20th December 08 at the HRD of ADF. Ms Mridula Lawrence, Communication Manager, HCL participated in the programme as Chief Guest. It main purpose to organize the event was to assess the impact of programme as well as present status of student. On this occasion 78 former students and 73 present students participated in the programme. They presented cultural programme. In an experience sharing session they expressed their views about their present occupation. A format was also filled by the former students giving information about their present status. A database of pass out students was also developed. They inspired present student to go through the training programme. More than 50% of the pass out students either got job or started their own venture. The trainers were also honoured in this occasion. They were given gifts on the occasion.

• CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION:
Asha Deep Foundation celebrated Christmas on 19th December 2008 with the community and all the beneficiary of the project at the project office of Asha Deep Foundation. On this occasion Ms. Shikha Srivastava, Programme Manager, Indo Global Social Service Society, participated as Chief Guest. The function was started with lighting the lamp by the chief guest. Children of Ashaniketan Home presented the welcome dance. School children, community women and girls presented cultural programme on the occasion. A beautiful skit was presented by children on the birth of Lord Jesus. Chief guest Ms. Shikha asked the children to follow the preaching of Lord Jesus in her speech. She also said we all should spread the message of love and brotherhood in the society to establish peace and harmony. At the end Santa came to the stage with jingle bells and greeting all the Merry Christmas. Nearly 800 community, school and beneficiary children women and youth participated in the programme. Gifts and cakes distributed to all the participants. ADF also celebrated Christmas Party with the staff of organisation on 23rd December 2008 at HRD centre. On this occasion games were organised with staff. All the Staff were given warm welcome while arrival and regional cuisine was served to them. Three interesting games were organised to make the party interesting. A delicious lunch was served to all the participants in the afternoon. A skit was also presented by local artistshem. Staff also presented song and cultural programmes. Staff danced on the music and had lot of fun. At the end Christmas gifts were distributed by Chairman Fr. A.R. Rajamoney to all the staff. All the 125 staff of ADF participated in the programme and enjoyed every bit of it.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION:

• AWARENESS ON HIV/AIDS:
The International Women’s Day was celebrated on 7th March 2009 at A-Block Park, Dilshad Garden. Nearly 1000 community women from all the project area of ADF participated in the programme. On this occasion a rally was organised from Shahid Nagar and Seemapuri, which passed through Shalimar Garden, Seemapuri and finally reaching at the venue. Before starting from Shahid Nagar women assembled at the project office. A Nukkad Natak was played by the professional artist on dowry and atrocities on women. Chief guest Dr. Naina Athaley, Consultant, Children at High Risk, Holistic Child Development India, Ms. Poornima Narayan, District Chairman, Inner Wheel Club, Ms. Indu Gupta, Past District Chairman, Inner Wheel Club participated in the programme at the project office to encourage the women. Ms. Narayan asked the women to raise their voice collectively against all form of violence. She flagged off the rally to start and reach the final destination. Women raised slogan against discrimination, female feoticide, education and liberation all the way to venue. Dr. Naina Athaley, Consultant, Children at High Risk, Holistic Child Development India graced the occasion as Chief Guest beside other guests such as Mr. Narendra Nath, MLA Shahadra Constituency, Ms. Poornima Narayan, District Chairman, Inner Wheel Club, Ms. Indu Gupta, Past District Chairman, Inner Wheel Club, Mr. Veer Singh Dhingan, MLA Seemapuri, Shri. T.D. Singh, Social Activist, Bharat Bachao Andolan. The programme was started with lighting the lamp by the guest. The rural community women of the Integrated Rural Development Project of ADF also participated in this programme. Women associated with ADF and doing excellent work in the community, honoured on the occasion. Women and girls presented cultural programme on the women’s issues. The teachers of St James Convent School teachers presented a skit on the fetter women of society. The reflection of atrocities on women by women was quite visible in the skit. Gifts were distributed to all the participating women at the end of the programme. The chief guest and other guests emphasized on the bring change in the society by making change in oneself. The society will change inevitably. It was a very successful event and women felt confidence.
