Community Development Programme (CDP)

Introduction

The Community Development Program was initiated with the support of Manos Unidas to mainstream the Rag- picking and migrant communities who are residing in the border areas of Delhi, the national capital and the state of Uttar Pradesh. The project is focusing on the children, youth and women who belong to the corresponding communities. The target groups will be developed in holistic manner by providing education, health awareness, livelihood, capacity building on legal rights and support them to aware on development process to compromise on the other basic needs like human dignity, social upbringing, access to basic civil rights and a place in the mainstream of the society. The project essentially tries to bring them to realize their rights and give them an access to their basic rights through a combination of service provisions, advocacy and networking. The process of social and economic development of rag-pickers community of approx. 5000 families living in the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border area would be initiated. The project relies to be target based approach. The main objective of the project includes Children’s survival/protection and educational status is enhanced in the target community, Youth are organized on developmental issues and en-skilled for alternative jobs, Healthcare status of the target community is improved through sensitization and medical interventions, Women of the target communities are empowered through economic and social strengthening activities, Rag-pickers community is brought to the mainstream through awareness building and networking. The project is expected to produce sustainable support and help that would strengthen the socio-economic status of the targeted communities.
