| About Asha Vocational Technical Training Institute |
The Asha VTTI was established in the month of June 2005 at Shahid Nagar with the aim of reaching out to the dropout youths (Boys and Girls) above the age of 14 years. The AVTTI was started with the aim to provide technical training to the youth from the under privileged communities in the various trades in demand that could help them to earn a decent living. The institute started functioning with only four trades and at present the institute is providing training in the more than ten trades.
Though the origin of vocational and Technical Training Centre is very old and situated at project office D-81, Shahid Nagar. it was started functioning in 1983.
The area of Shahid Nagar and its nearby colonies are quite dense. Most of the people of these colonies are from backward and middle class strata. The children of the community areas are not interested in regular & higher studies due to their poor economical status. The lack of education as well as any vocational skill makes them vulnerable to economically backwardness. Asha Vocational Technical Training Institute gives an opportunity to community youth to acquire skill in trades, which has much demand in the market and earn a decent living. |

| Target Group: |
Asha vocational and training institute targets the youths above fourteen years of age to make them professionally trained of the above-mentioned area.
The community people of targeted area belong to the first generation of migrant workers engaged in rag picking and garbage collection. The economic condition of these people is very low. Due to lack of opportunity in other field and required skill, they are forced to do this work. Since this profession is not able to meet the basic need of the family, the young children are also involved in the cycle. These children are sent to collect garbage early in the morning by the family head. Due to the involvement in this profession, children loose interest in the academic education. Those who manage to enroll in the schools do not complete their education due to financial constraints and the poor quality of education. These children are more vulnerable to engage in any anti-social activities in frustration. Girl children are most affected by the present situation. They are forced to involve in rag picking to get some extra money as well as take care of household work.
The plight of these children offers us enough reason to continue our efforts to provide vocational training to the children of the community. Since the youth of the community are the direct beneficiary in the project, but the community as a whole will be benefited ultimately. |
| ACTIVITIES & PERSONNEL: |
The classes for different trades were furnished and fully equipped with furniture. New equipments were purchased for the new trades. Up gradation of Beutician, computer software and hardware was done. New computers were installed for the trainees. A total of 10 high quality computers were purchased with additional hardware and software components. A new look was given to the classrooms to attract more youth from the community.
Meetings in the community are organised with the parents and youths to motivate them for enrollment. emphasis is given to girls to join the vocational courses. Apart from in class training, practical classes are conducted for the students. Trainees are taken out for exposure, to the trades they are enrolled, in local industries.
Recreational activities such as carrom compitition and sports are organised to enhance the interest of students in the courses. Students are also encouraged to participate in cultural programmes organised in the institution. Extra curricular activities helps in retaining the students in the class as well as check the drop out rate.
