Title

Child Day Care Centre (Child survival program)-IN-C42

Executive Summary

Asha Deep Foundation is carrying out Child Survival Programmme activities with Compassion International in the slum of Pappu Colony, Rajiv Nagar, Kutty and Panchsheel Enclave, Uttar Pradesh.
Since its inception, the emphasis was given on the holistic development of the community Mother and Child Unit. Therefore no area of development was untouched in the process of community development. This is the strong belief of the Foundation that all sections of society be covered to experience visible changes.
The Foundation is running many projects of development and almost all the people of the community are covered

Rationale

Many people in Pappu Colony and Panchsheel Enclave, U.P, are involved in the business of rag picking. It may be due to some reason or other but it is viewed as a social evil.
They are living in resettlement colonies of North East Delhi and UP, They are engaged in the rag picking activities due to family and social reasons.
This area is used as a dumping place of city refuse for many years.
The small communities living near this dumping area use this refuse to make their livelihood in absence of any other opportunity. Gradually it becomes a system and a standard way of living.
Nearly 300 of the rag picking population consist of girls.
The exploitation, abuse, health hazard, malnutrition and lack of education are the common phenomena of their daily life.
The rights of children are primarily their childhood which through education, better health environment, recreation etc. should be upheld as a constitutional right.
The new generation of children should not be permitted to be involved in such activities. It is our duty to ensure that children are seen like any other children who enjoy have good health and education.

Need of the Day Centre

The need for this Centre is very much felt especially in Pappu Colony and Panchseel Enclave because through the micro- nutrition products being provided to them are sufficient, but they can misuse the same selling it off for money to buy alcohol and drugs, male members of the family being largely responsible.
By selling of micro- nutrients, they can get monitory benefit but health problems can occur causing serious consequence.
Opening this Day Care Centre will stop the misuse of micro- nutrition items. The Center will provide directly cooked food. This should bring direct benefits to the units in a constructive way and help in the growth of children and their care givers.
It will also help us to directly monitor them with a view to stop the misuse of the resources that we are providing to them.
